Welcome to the photography gallery of Brett Nickeson. I hope you have a chance to take a look around the site at a few of the many photos here. But I suppose you've navigated your way here to find out a little about me. I have lived in Nebraska all of my short life and currently reside in Omaha. I received a Bachelors and Masters degree in Structural Engineering from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, where I now work as a structural engineer. Ever since I was relatively young I've had a strong interest in photography that has always seemed to revolve around wildlife and nature in general. Part of this has to do with my background, being brought up in a family of outdoorsmen where I learned of the serenity and vitality that can be displayed.
"My" first camera was my dad's old Canon slide film unit, the model of which I couldn't tell you because at 10 years old I didn't really care at the time. What I did care about was being able to climb 60 feet up a spruce tree and take shots of a dove nest, or scramble to get a good picture of a rose breasted grosbeak before it continued with its migration. I was a regular in our backyard, with some of the local residents getting used to me enough to perch on my finger while eating out of the suet feeder. From that point on, I was hooked. I bought my first dSLR in 2006 and have amassed enough gear (and lightened the wallet) to feed my obsession for the time being. I try to take at least a couple photographic trips per year to keep my sanity in check, with my most recent being yearly trips to Yellowstone National Park and Rocky Mountain National Park.
The natural world has always grabbed my attention in large part because of the beauty and unpredictability of it. These are the traits I try to capture and convey in my work. I hope you enjoy browsing through my site and if you see any photos you are especially fond of, feel free to buy as many as you'd like or contact me with any questions at the email address below. Thanks again.
Brett
